HAIR APPARENT That most classic of Hollywood inquiries-Are those real?-is taking on new meaning these days. "So many actresses have hair extensions that it's almost mandatory for a hairstylist to know how to work with them," explains K. Troy Zestos, the mane man behind Rachel's and (formerly) Mischa's Breck-girl looks on The O.C. Now even non-starlets can get tressed by Zestos at his just opened Chroma Studio (323.466.6353) on Yucca Street. Pony up $2,000 and the hair guru will work his magic using thermal-bond extensions, which are sealed directly onto your own locks, creating a completely seamless coif. Across town in Santa Monica, celebs like Kristin Chenoweth and Leah Remini stop by Image By Kimarie (310.581.4247) for founder Kimarie Teter's famed Euro Locs system, a pricey process ($800-$3,000) that allows the extensions to be moved up the hair shafts as they grow out, making upkeep more manageable. Don't have an A-list expense account? You can still get paparazzi-worthy locks at L.A's HairTech (310.550.9021), where silky DreamCatchers extensions (all virgin hair sourced from Europe) cost just $10 each. A full head runs about $1,000, but you'll leave with plenty of swag, including styling products and a silk pillowcase. - Wendy Schmid | | | | | | | |
